Ciclón Energy Drink - Case Study

Alfred Rothensteiner of Santo Domingo founded Ciclón Energy Drink in 1996. Originally from Austria, the Ciclón Energy Drink brand was introduced to the Caribbean and Central America the same year. In Q4 2001, Ciclón was considered one of the the largest producers of energy drinks in the world.

Ciclón has saturated Venezuela, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Panama, Puerto Rico, United States and many other countries. And is fast becoming one of the most popular non-alcoholic drinks throughout the entire Central and Latin American, and Caribbean markets.

Adoption rates in the United States are also exceptionally promising.

Due to its die-hard guerrilla marketing, street branding, and unique product sales and distribution methods, Ciclón has achieved huge marketing success in Puerto Rico's intricate market and is the #1 energy drink brand in Puerto Rico.

Considering other enormous adoption rates where Ciclón has been introduced, Ciclón continually exhibits promise in maintaining it's course as the leading international
energy drink brand.

Situation

The Ciclón Energy Drink requires (1) global presence in order to dominate the energy drink market, which requires the (2) strength of the latest and greatest marketing and design concepts, including the (3)
dominating Internet marketing strategies.

Marketing requirements included segmentation and exclusion, date-collection, identity brand building,
international brand leadership, with a strong regional presence in the Caribbean and the Americas.

Regionally Segmented Marketing - The site development was required to assert regionally coordinated traditional and digital marketing efforts as a competitive advantage. For this to happen, the site must be customizable on a per-region basis to permit regional content and campaign management to be synchronized with traditional street efforts.

Additionally, Ciclón required the ability to delegate control of content features, thus regionally distributing workload.

Centralized Management - The Site development was required to have an expandable and centralized site management system, providing Ciclón with
unrivaled control over regionally promoted content, campaigns, corporate data, language options, and other important features.

Data Reporting - The site development was required to collect specific site traffic information, and display reports compiled in real-time. These reports
included overall regional traffic, promotional response rates, media and feature utilization, and membership distribution.

Package Development - The site development was required to be developed in package format to remove initial and post-development overlap, subsequently reducing the overall project investment.

Specific technical requirements included regionally segmented marketing, centralized global and regional content, campaign, and statistics management. This entire concept was required in a planned, packaged, and phase-based development.

Solution:

Tulla Media investigated, planned, and recommended a lucrative approach to a customized site management system. The analysis included priority items and an investment breakdown overall and per region.
Additionally, we included a quantitative and qualitative comparison of the costs incurred by using per-region development companies.

The proposal was incremented by phases to allow the client to customize its marketing strategy and meet the challenging demands of today's highly competitive
beverage industry.

The first and most important phase was to produce the digital platform for regional expansion. This included brand standardization guidelines, the centralized administration system, a master template design, and a pre-configured region.

The centralized administration system includes the global and regional managers, a template manager, user manager, and a statistics console. Additional modules for the system included global and regional managers for Ciclón campaigns, media surveys, and site membership, among others.

Benefits & Results:

The new website has provided many important advantages to Ciclón, including a standard method of managing website content and promotional materials, and the ability to support and maintain a synchronized branding strategy with a consolidated
investment.

Because Tulla Media invested its own time to understand both the client and consumer's requirements, the branding and management aspects of the system have been implemented in an extremely powerful and flexible way.

Ciclón Energy Drink now has the ability to install regions at a fixed time and financial resource investments, thus establishing financial stability, and budget and schedule planning. With the customized site management system, the client can install a region in less than two weeks.

Additionally, Tulla Media has enabled the client to take a highly active role in its' global branding strategy by giving Ciclón the power of creativity, effectiveness, and definite results.

Additional to the administrative system, Tulla Media's elegant and trend-setting designs have set the direction for Ciclón to continue strengthening and enriching its brand image, all of which demonstrate Tulla Media a smart and durable investment.
